The Ups and Downs of Being a Dental Nurse

As a dental nurse, I have the privilege of working alongside some of the most talented and compassionate dentists in the industry. But let's be real – it's not all sunshine and roses. There are definitely some ups and downs to being a dental nurse. In this blog post, I'll take you through a typical day in my life and share some of the funnier (and sometimes bizarre) moments that come with the job.

Morning Routine: Coffee, Checklists, and Chaos

Like most people, my day starts with a cup of coffee (or two). Then it's time to get organised and check off my to-do list for the day. As a dental nurse, no two days are ever the same, so I have to be prepared for anything. Some days I'm dealing with anxious patients, other days I'm assisting with complex surgical procedures. And then there are those days when I'm called upon to play "dental detective" and track down a missing filling.

The "Oh No" Moments

One of the things I love most about being a dental nurse is the opportunity to work with patients of all ages. But with that comes some "Oh no" moments. Like the time a young patient mistook my suction tube for a straw and tried to blow bubbles. Or the time an elderly patient fell asleep mid-procedure and started snoring loudly. Let's just say there are plenty of moments that keep me on my toes.

The "Awww" Moments

Despite the occasional chaos, being a dental nurse also comes with some truly heartwarming moments. Like the time a little girl brought in a stuffed animal for me to hold while she got her shots. Or the time an elderly patient brought in cookies to thank me for my kindness. It's the small acts of appreciation that make the job so rewarding.

After Hours: Relaxing, Refreshing, and Recharging

After a long day of dealing with anxious patients, high-stress procedures, and everything in between, it's important to take some time to relax and recharge. For me, that usually involves cuddling up with my dog and binging on my latest Netflix obsession. And when the work week is over, it's time to kick back and enjoy a well-deserved glass of wine (or two).

The Rewards of Being a Dental Nurse

Being a dental nurse is a demanding and sometimes unpredictable job, but it's also incredibly rewarding. From the "Oh no" moments to the heartwarming "Awww" moments, it's the little things that make the job so fulfilling. So if you're thinking about a career in dental nursing, don't let the chaos or the occasional bubble-blowing patient scare you off – it's all worth it in the end.
